Tournament Information
Date(s): Saturday, September 26th & Sunday, September 27th
Expected Venue(s): TBD
Tournament Format
Beginning in 2026, The Constitution Cup will be a contest between two six (6) player teams: Team Rose (Red), consisting of players from the City of Norwich, and Team Oak (Blue), consisting of players from all other towns. The match-play style tournament will be spread across an 18-hole Saturday Round and a 9-hole Sunday Round, with 12 matches of in-person golf using the following format:
18 Hole Round (Front 9): Three (3) 2v2 Alternate Shot matches
18 Hole Round (Back 9): Three (3) 2v2 Best Ball matches
9 Hole Replay Round: Six (6) Individual matches
Each match is worth up to one (1) full point or 1/2 point in the event of a tie, for a maximum possible team score of 12 points. The Challenging team is required to score 6-1/2 points to win the cup, else the Defending team retains the cup. For the 1st Annual Constitution Cup, Team Rose is Defending.
Team Captains will be the player from each respective pool with the highest UPS Cup point total immediately following The Roses Classic. The remaining five (5) roster positions on each team are filled in descending order of total UPS Cup points at that time. The remaining Tour players are considered as alternates, with order of preference determined by UPS Cup point totals. In order to qualify for play, a player must have competed in at least one (1) Major Tournament in the active season.
The Team Captains will determine the pairings for each match (pairings remain consistent for the 18 hole round for tee time logistics). The “Challenging” team captain will submit their match lineups seven days in advance of the event. The “Defending” team captain will then be given the opportunity to submit their roster lineup, filling the remaining match positions, three days in advance of the event. Any necessary substitutions due to unforeseen absence will be “1-for-1” with no revision of lineups. In the event of an absence where a substitution cannot be made, the existing score shall be counted twice for 2v2 matches, and the average score for the team shall be taken as a stand-in for Individual matches.
